YMCA of Metro Denver President and Chief Executive Officer Suehila (Sue) Glass has announced her resignation after five successful years with the organization. Glass has accepted a position as President and CEO at the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, which she will begin mid-January of 2024. Current Board Chair Rick Rush has been appointed interim President and CEO until the full-time CEO position can be filled.
In 2018, Glass stepped up as the first female leader and individual of color to head the YMCA of Metro Denver in the organization’s almost 150 years. During her tenure as CEO, she shaped the Denver Y’s strategic vision, executing its One Mission. One Vision. One Voice. strategic plan. This plan paved the way for many of the Y’s current initiatives, including its real estate redevelopment efforts, a new membership model and internal operating/staff initiatives. Glass led the YMCA of Metro Denver in its response to the global pandemic and helped expand the organization’s work addressing education, child care, food insecurity, health and, most recently, the epidemic of isolation and loneliness.
“I am deeply grateful for the privilege of leading such an extraordinary team and am filled with pride for the remarkable milestones achieved during my tenure,” Glass shared in her resignation. “My time at the Denver YMCA will always hold a special place in my heart. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the continued growth and impact of the organization in the years to come.”
Effective January 15, 2024, current YMCA of Metro Denver Board Chair Rick Rush will step down temporarily to serve as Interim President and CEO. As a health actuary, Rush is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Among his community leadership roles, he has twice served on the Jefferson County School Board, Colorado Community College System Foundation Board, Rueckert-Hartman College at Regis University Advisory Board and AARP Colorado Legislative Advocate. He has served on the YMCA of Metro Denver Board for four years, as board chair for two years and is a member of the Southwest YMCA.
The YMCA of Metro Denver has also formed a CEO Search Committee, in consultation with YUSA and that committee will be led by Incoming Board Chair Meridith Marshall and supported by the entire board of directors.
