The Aurora YMCA is celebrating the opening of its new soccer pitch and pickleball court. The journey from concept to completion spanned 18 months of hard work and dedication to deliver these amenities to the community.
The urban soccer field, measuring 90' x 130', was engineered with recyclable turf certified for small-sided soccer. The 5v5, 5-a-side offers a playing field with a smaller footprint, but with many benefits of 5-a-side soccer versus traditional soccer. Players will hone off-the-ball movement and foot skills and technique as well as instinctual decision-making. Plus, the specially engineered, recyclable turf provides a soft landing for players.
The field will be used initially for the Y’s Sports of All Sorts program for young athletes ages 3 to 5, and in the future for youth soccer, volleyball and even adult flag football in 2024. Additionally, groups will have the option to rent the field, providing opportunities for residents, YMCA members and others to utilize the space. However, the fields are not available for use, if the facilities are closed.
For pickleball aficionados, our newly unveiled pickleball court is a fantastic opportunity for fitness and fun. Here's what you should know:
Court Availability: There is a single court available for pickleball enthusiasts. The court is 40' x 60' and provides ample space for competitive games.
Court Reservations: The court is open to all Aurora residents, free of charge to Y members and a nominal $10/person fee for non-members. Reservations are required.
