New Voices, New Vision: Meet Our Newest Board Members
The YMCA of Metro Denver is pleased to welcome two new members to its Board of Directors: Derik Timmerman and Sherry Peng. Joining our dedicated board team, they will help guide the organization through our milestone 150th anniversary year and into the future.
Sherry Peng is a seasoned expert in privacy and cybersecurity. As Chief Privacy Officer at Agora, she brings nearly a decade of experience in the security field. Growing up helping her family run their business, Sherry developed strong business acumen that she now brings to the Y. Her career path — from local government to the private sector — gives her a well-rounded perspective on navigating complex challenges. Sherry is also a passionate advocate for diversity in tech, having served as President of WiCyS Colorado.
Derik Timmerman, PhD, has been a nationally recognized speaker and facilitator on nonprofit leadership for more than 15 years and is the author of The 40 Laws of Nonprofit Impact. He is the Managing Partner of Valtas, a Seattle- and Denver-based advisory firm that supports leadership transitions for social enterprises. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Derik served as a US Army Intelligence Officer with two combat deployments to Iraq. Outside of work, he enjoys baking, hiking and living out his core purpose of building “factories of hope.”
