We are excited to provide the latest updates regarding the status of the Downtown Denver YMCA. As you may know, the facility has been undergoing renovations, and we’re working hard to reopen it in phases to welcome you all back. In this post, we will walk you through the progress made so far, share some setbacks we’ve encountered, and explain what this means for the future reopening of the facility.
Phased Re-opening Plan
Our plan for the Downtown Denver YMCA is to have a phased re-opening. This means the first parts of the facility to open will be the main and lower levels, which will be available for use before we open the second floor. We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce a re-opening date soon, so stay tuned for more information.
Asbestos Abatement Completed
One major hurdle has been successfully cleared — the completion of the asbestos abatement. This process was essential to ensuring the safety of our members and staff, as well as compliance with health regulations. We’re pleased to report that the air clearance report from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shows that we’ve met all the necessary requirements. The building is now safer than ever, and final renovations are underway to get everything back in shape.
Renovations and Cleaning Underway
In addition to addressing the asbestos issue, we are also making several renovations throughout the facility. Our teams are working hard to put the final touches on the renovation process. Once that’s done, the entire facility will undergo a deep cleaning to ensure that when you return, it feels like a fresh, new space ready for use.
Setbacks Due to Water Leaks
Unfortunately, we have experienced two more water leaks recently, originating from the third floor, which is occupied by the Coalition for the Homeless. These leaks caused damage to the second floor, which could delay the reopening of that area. We understand how frustrating delays can be, and we share your eagerness to get back to normal operations. However, we are committed to ensuring the facility is fully repaired and safe for use before we open any part of the second floor.

We know this has been a long process, and like you, we are anxious to have our YMCA community back together again. Your patience and support mean the world to us, and we are grateful for your understanding as we navigate these challenges.
Membership Dues & Benefits
As a reminder, if the Downtown YMCA is your home branch, your membership dues for July, August, September and October were waived. If you are being charged an ongoing locker fee, please reach out to Alex Kennedy at akennedy@denverymca.org for assistance. Additionally, don’t forget that your YMCA membership gives you access to all of our wellness centers in the Denver metro area.
