Stronger through fitness & friends at the Y

Eileen Eastridge, diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, was referred to the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program to alleviate her side affects. The free 12-week program helps cancer survivors improve health and build community. The specialized exercises helped Eileen become stronger and more energetic, but “the icing on the cake came in the social support I found. The program gave me a new community of supporters who understood what going through cancer is really like.” Read Eileen's story.

Finding a Third Place for community

The Y helped Elias Jacobson get through a tragic time in his life and to get his health back on track. The stress and sadness of losing his sister and brother led to unhealthy habits and Elias was in a downward spiral, facing an imminent Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. Remembering with fondness childhood summers at the Y, he reached out for help and joined a year-long Diabetes Prevention Program and found the camaraderie to continue. Read more about Elias' journey.

Breaking down barriers through youth sports

Playing sports can have lasting social, emotional and physical benefits. But it’s on the decline. The Y of Metro Denver is one of only 4 YMCAs in the country selected to partner with Gatorade. Together, we’re breaking down the barriers young athletes face whether it’s financial challenges, lack of role models, too much pressure or low self-confidence. Over the summer, we partnered with Gatorade to host a local youth clinic with special guest Chauncey Billups to mentor and inspire local teens.
