Swim Teams

The Schlessman Family YMCA offers year-round competitive swimming for kids ages 8 and up.

We teach and train all levels of swimmers while emphasizing individual progress, family participation, good sportsmanship, individual integrity and team play.

Swim teams are organized at two levels:

  • Aquaforce (USA Swimming)
  • Porpoise Club (Entry Level Team)

Aquaforce Swim Team

The Schlessman Family Y’s Aquaforce swimming program is sanctioned by USA Swimming and thus meets approved criteria for rules, officials, timing, distances and coach certification. (Y Membership and USA Swimming Membership is required. You will need to register with the Schlessman Y and USA Swimming.)

To join Aquaforce, swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of legal freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke. Not ready? Check out our swim lessons.

Group I:

This is a competitive training group designed to prepare swimmers for higher levels of competition. Swimmers must be familiar with all four strokes as well as starts and turns. This group is ideal for swimmers who are ready for competitive swimming, but not for the distance and training demands of Group II.

  • Prepares swimmers for high levels of competition

  • Focuses on skills needed to be a successful competitive swimmer, including training etiquette, stroke technique, starts and turns, and training and race strategies
